UDANI PALIBE INE NDI PITALA - WATERO JB Former president Joyce Banda has finally welcome the olive branch extended to her by President Peter Mutharika during his inauguration. Mutharika has always maintained his willingness to work with opposition political leaders, including Banda, who has been leaving outside the country since her fall at the hand of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader in May, to take up the offer. Speaking through her spokesperson Tusekele Mwanyongo, to Capital Radio on Thursday, Banda expressed her readiness to be at Mutharika’s disposal everytime the Malawi leader call her. Said Mwanyongo: “The door to the former president is open, any time the state president would want to talk to her, he should feel free to do so. Suffice to say that the former president has spent quite some time outside the country, any time she returns and President Mutharika wants to meet her she will be just a phone call away. She will always make herself available.” And while refusing to confirm or deny reports that Joyce Banda has applied to the government of the United States to extend her stay, Mwanyongo disclosed that the Peoples Party (PP) founder is currently in South Africa. Joyce Banda refused to attend Mutharika’s inauguration at Kamuzu Stadium in May this year. She was also absent when Mutharika treated his May Elections contenders to a luncheon at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre.
