UPDATE ON EEE/WNV 2013 in SC 4 additional cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) were confirmed this week by the SC State Veterinarian’s office. This brings the 2013 current EEE case total to 39 confirmed and 2 suspect. 4 New Confirmed Encephalitis Positives for the week of August 26-30, 2013 EEE 1 Aiken County EEE 1 Bamberg County EEE 1 Berkeley County EEE 1 Darlington County 39 EEE Total Confirmed Positives 2013 1 Aiken County 1 Bamberg County 2 Barnwell County 4 Berkeley County 4 Charleston County 1 Clarendon County 1 Colleton County 1 Darlington County 4 Dorchester County 1 Florence County 10 Horry County 2 Lee County 1 Lexington County 2 Marion County 3 Sumter County (2 additional suspect/unconfirmed) 1 Williamsburg County 1 WNV Total Confirmed Positives 2013 1 Lancaster County We encourage owners to booster vaccinations every six months in fall and spring to help in the prevention of these diseases. Use of mosquito control measures can also assist in reducing the prevalence.
