UPDATE: With Nates permission, Im asking -- can anybody think of anything for him to do? Taco Bell, he can work 3 (4hr shifts) per week, maximum. 12 hours at work per week is not enough. He doesnt want to just pursue his hobbies at home. In the words of Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility, Give him an occupation or he shall run mad. The challenges: He cant work a job where he sits or stands for long periods; he has to be able to alternate and walk around to keep circulation going, and elevate his leg for a few minutes every few hours. He cant get cut or bruised or lift very much. He has to be able to stay hydrated. He cant drive a lot - less than an hour at a time with 10 min per hour walking around. (Plus he cant get a car until he gets a job, which is one reason hes so upset about not being a manager after all.) Possibly nobody will want to invest heavily in training him because he is going to college full-time in the fall. His ace in the hole: Hes pretty bright and an excellent worker. He leveled up to manager in a year at Taco Bell, and has had strangers offer him jobs because hes good with the public and fast with money. (The jobs didnt work out - one was for a bank that hired somebody else, and the other was for 8 hours of standing, in tire sales, but still. Hes a noticeably good worker.) He has great references for now, but those might dwindle if he keeps trying to work above his physical ability and is unable to take on more duties or promote. :/ Does anybody have any ideas at all, to get him through winter and spring with some self-regard and something to do? Ive been studying stories of DVT survivors and the necessary job changes are a huge issue for everybody. Its hard for people to think outside the box and imagine a different job and different goals - at first, it just feels like a loss. In Nates case, at least hes going to college and will have many more options later. Its just this year that we need a plan. Thank you for any thoughts!
