UPDATE on “random” shooting that was reported to have occurred at the Speedway Gas Station at U.S. Hwy 6 & Swanson Road on August 10th, 2013……After Portage Police Detectives conducted their investigation, it was determined that the victim lied about where the shooting actually occurred. It was determined that the shooting happened at a residence in Portage as a pistol was being handled by an acquaintance of the victim when it discharged accidently. The bullet from the gun struck the victim in the chest which required surgery. As a result of the investigation, false informing charges have been filed against the victim and the charges are currently waiting to be reviewed by the prosecutors’ office. The name of the victim is being withheld until the charges are accepted by the prosecutors’ office. The person who was in possession of the pistol is not being charged. Chief Troy Williams
