** URGENT CALL TO ACTION ** **Help Retain Carbon Tax: cheap effective price on carbon** Worried about Tonys hatchet job on our environment? Please help with this phone drive! Your call counts!! The Independent Senators are the key to retaining Australias current legislation to protect our environment and protect future generations. The bill will be reintroduced on Monday. The Palmer Senators are counting phone calls today and tomorrow! All you have to do is leave a simple one or two line message to support our current price on pollution, that is the Carbon Tax, and thank Palmer, Lazerus, Lambie and Muirs independent voice and their care for the real people of Australia, and for future generations. Thank them also for their support for an ETS, reminding them of the existing ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme) starting as soon as possible. If you can, support them for supporting funding for ARENA and bolstering the RET (Renewable Energy Target), which will help support green jobs. Thank them for standing up for Australias international reputation, voting to regain our leadership on environmental issues that Prime Minister Abbott is damaging so badly. If you are from Tasmania its is particularly critical because Senator Lambie has said she will support Tasmania first, and Tasmania has so much to lose if we lose a price on carbon (Carbon Tax) as so many green jobs will go. Contacts - Please ring Friday, as early as possible! Please try the Canberra number first. Senator Clive Palmer 02 6277 4372 Electorate 07 5443 5333 Senator Glenn Lazarus 02 6277 3204 Electorate 07 3001 8940 Senator Jackie Lambie 02 6277 3063 Electorate 03 6431 2233 Senator Ricky Muir 02 6277 3040 Electorate 03 9662 3799 Background (Please read and put some of this into the conversation if you have a chance) 1) ERF INEFFECTIVE The ERF (LNPs approach to emissions reduction the Emissions Reduction Fund) is very much less effective than the Carbon Tax - Climate Institute Reports citing SKM, Reputex and Garnaut reports estimate that the LNFs ERF will result in an INCREASE in CO2 emissions of THIRTY per cent by 2020, a close to 40% difference, and that would escalate up to 80% difference by 2030. This will be VERY EXPENSIVE of a cost up to all pensions combined, from a Government that cries budget emergency yet is willing to for go 18B till 2020, and finances the fossil fuel industry to the tune of 24B annually. 2) RUN OUT OF TME We have actually run out of carbon budget - we are close to 2 degrees warming now- simply: 0.8 rise, 0.8 in the oceans and 0.2 not accounted for due to arctic ice melt. So we need to transition rapidly away from fossil fuels to avoid catastrophe later. To be safe, we need immediate DECREASES in CO2 emissions, estimates vary from 30-60% decrease by 3020. The Carbon Tax and RET had got us to 7% already at very little cost. 3) FISCALLY IRRESPONSIBLE The LNP wants us to pay their dues to their sponsors and strand Australia with last centurys technologies when the rest of the world is moving rapidly towards renewables. Very little large finance has been approved for new fossil fuel projects internationally and fossil fuel utilities have fallen dramatically in value. AUSTRALIANS SUPER IS AT RISK!! We should divest from internationally toxic industries and continue to move towards renewables which are nearly as cheap now and will continue to improve. 4) FUTURE GENERATIONS ARE AT RISK Estimates for business as usual warming range from 4-5 degrees at 2100. It is widely said that the difference between 2 degrees warming and 4 degrees is human civilisation itself, and at 5 degrees that earth has an estimated carrying capacity of only 1 Billion compared to a possible population peak mid century of 9 Billion. War, famine, forced fatal migrations, heat stroke...... We have so little time and so much to do!! We cant let Tony Abbotts debt to the fossil fuel powers that financed his election help ruin life for future generations.
