USA Does Not Mind Syria’s Defeat Samir Al- Taqi 03. 07. 2013 America’s attitude in the Middle East seems to be confused, especially in the terms of the Syrian case. At first, the American administration talks enthusiastically about arming the Syrian opposition and declares that Geneva Convention would not be held soon. Suddenly, it suddenly remains silent and takes time to have a clear response for Russia as it keeps fooling Obama. As America submits to Russia’s insistence to make Iran join the negotiations and the west democracies are using the excuse of the international law to strangle the revolution, those facts form a remarkable incident. Obama made his bet on Putin’s good intentions and the “wise” Iranian leadership when he decided the priorities of his policy. The Syrian crisis has become only a bloody nightmare ruining his dreamy vision of his achievements in the international diplomacy. He is still playing on the Russians in the matter of the radar station in Turkey, the oil in the Central Asia, his forces exist from Afghanistan, containing China, ect. He still thinks that his country is still holding Iran in all principal files. However, Obama does not want to believe that this dreamy vision of the international relations is starting to vanish. Furthermore, he refuses to see this painting on which he built his strategy would be painted with the blood of the Syrian children. Nonetheless, in international relations file, Obama starts from the main theory which says the US should stop holding responsibility as a major power in the world. It should not interfere in any crisis unless there is a clear and direct interest for it. Hence, the US opponents are trying to strike America from the sides which do not seem to be important to it. Furthermore, they are trying to accomplish development and achievements which the US does not consider to be a direct security threat to it. Using this concept, Obama is trying justifying his defeats to see them as victories. He withdrew from Iraq after he confessed his loss in Al Anbar and imposed a constitution that assures a historical downfall for the Sunni Arabs. He left his remains so the Iraqi people would get afflicted by them. This was done through a constitution that established not only this historical defeat of the Sunni Arabs, but also peace after peace in Iraq. In order to have an “honorable” defeat in Al Anbar, he gave up its responsibilities, even as an occupying country. He went out defeated and left Iraq to be in an undecided regional sectarian war. The same goes for Afghanistan. When his budget needed to be hugely cut down, he left the country to a long civil war. Meanwhile, he is negotiating with the “Talban terrorists” behind the scenes as he is showing his historical defeat as well. In both situations, the Americans are covering their defeat as they have left two sovereign countries in an endless political struggle. USA has turned its back to its least international ethical responsibilities since it went into those countries, destroyed them, and then walked away. Moreover, the Americans would surprise you when they use the following excuse: “What should we do with those bloody savage uncivilized people? They still insist on endless fights and conflicts. This is the Middle East and this is the Islamic world. These regions are filled with foolishness, tribalism, and blood”. Therefore, the American administration believes that its power allows it to enjoy the luxury of the loss here and here. However, the issue is much deeper than that. The US has abounded all Eastern European countries before in Yalta agreement with Stalin. The agreement divided the world and handed all the East European democratic forces to Stalin’s hands. The political leaderships of the Syrian revolution need to observe those facts deeply. They should also expect that the US would turn its back to everything it said at the first signal from Putin or Khamenei. The present administration has no will and it will remain confused and not knowing how to react. This situation would keep on as long as the administration cannot realize the central position of the Middle East and Gulf in the international politics, and as long as it is attempted by the simple vision of the world. Meanwhile, the center of gravity is moving to China. The world is not in one gravity center any more. A defeat that occurs in one part would reflect on the whole international struggle. The present American policy is teaching us that the democratic struggle in our region cannot be reached through the west democracies. They abounded the regions in Yalta for a long time when their interests required doing so. Afterwards, they went back when it became possible to shake socialism in East Europe. At present, it is not possible to imagine a peaceful democratic struggle as the west gave up its excuses. The democratic struggle should follow the path of the French revolution. Kerry- Lavrov negotiations refer that the US is willing to accept Iran’s presence in Geneva’s meetings. Additionally, USA is working on reconsidering the Russian and Iranian states. This would make it hesitate again in its attitude towards the Syrian revolution. After the US administration declared that it knows the good from the bad in the Syrian revolutionists, it left Homs as a prey for the savageness of bombs and massacres carried out by foreign invading forces. The struggle is moving again to the side of the Syrian revolution forces as they are the ones that will achieve victory. They are already in the process of abolishing authority and regime. Therefore, they currently need to think of the establishing process. As the negotiations are going through a critical stage, we have to expect the US would put different revolution forces under pressure to join Geneva Convention as it is being prepared. Hence, the US is turning those talks to regional negotiations on the Syrian share. Since the Syrian opposition refuses the civil war even as a concept, Bashar Assad is trying to turn Geneva to a sample of state vs. rebels negotiations similar to Öcalan- Erdogan’s that are carried out under the sovereignty of the Turkish authority. Currently, Geneva is becoming talks between international partners. They are trying to finalize the Syrian situation in a way that serves their interests, so Syria would be in a situation of peace after peace and long bloody wars. The only possible way to get out of the negotiations and be on the way of salvation is the negotiations between two sides fighting for power and sovereignty. This concept of Geneva’s talks did not gain any attention from the opposition outside Syria. It has not been established from the international law, politics, media, or negotiations point of view. The Americans would not care about hearing that they have lost. They have done it many times, and they still believe that their power can let them enjoy the luxury of defeat here and there. What we fear is that the weak political capital would accept finalizing the Syrian case without reaching a real solution. The opponents would only feel sorry and helpless about the outgoing, while the bloodshed continues and the Americans would continue talking about those foolish struggling people and tribes that do not know how to create a home country that combines all Syrians. As for our revolution, it needs to know the right path and make another.
