Up and down and up again! Rugby League in Norway is back on track and are looking at spreading the gospel to new parts of Norway. 2 new teams will be competing in what will be the first ever regional tournament – the Sørlandscup which will be a 9s tournament held in Farsund, on the 18th of October. This will be the Farsund based teams first tournament ever. We will also wish back some Kristiansand Krusaders players as they play for their new team from the city of Arendal in this tournament. The national 13s table resulted in 1. Oslo Capitals 2. Flekkefjord Tigers 3. Porsgrunn Pirates 4. Flisbyen Broncos 5. Kristiansand Krusaders – Pulled out at season start. Oslo Capitals meet Flekkefjord Tigers in the RLN Grand Final – Can the tigers finally beat Oslo Capitals? The Grand Final will be played in Arendal on September the 20th in what will be Arendals first ever rugby league game. The attention and PR from the GF game is what we will gain momentum from to build the Arendal team to be big enough to play in the national 13s competition for the 2015 season. The national team structure has been better organized than before and we look forward to reaping the rewards this year when we do our best to win back the Nordic Cup trophy. This year we have seen more new and young Norwegians debut for the national team. The experience these players gain from the training camps with coach Craig West is something they are bringing back to their domestic teams and lift the quality of play in all teams. A more detailed story about the national team structure and plans will be revealed soon. Flekkefjord Tigers will do their 4th year running with the local sports school where they learn 100 kids aged between 7 and 9 over 7 weeks to play touch rugby league. A massive success so far! Oslo Capitals are also working on helping out troubled teenagers through rugby league in what are the more troubled places in Oslo. RLN is also working on getting a coaching and referees course after the Grand Final is played. Rugby League in Norway has had its struggles on and off the field but we look forward to the future and are thankfull for all the support and interest we’ve received.
