Update: I think It is worth mentioning that I am hearing from different sources, another side of the story which indicates that the organisers and attendees might have walked into a trap. However, I will not take back my condemnation of what happened today, until I am very sure that it was what happened. ___________ I would like to express my strongest condemnation towards what happened at Hong Lim Park this afternoon. As individuals who claim to hold intentions to work towards achieving a better society through their acts of activism, the behaviour of the organisers and attendees of the event are in no way reflective of that purpose. There is never any justification in displaying unruly behaviour towards the group of special needs childen who were performing at an event held by the YMCA. These children, and the organisation itself, have absolutely nothing to do with what you see as your oppression, so they should have been left alone. This is basic human decency. Furthermore, the behaviour displayed today serves no purpose towards the advancement of the discourse, and all of you have given the State a useful tool to cast bad light on civil society and activism. No thanks for that! Finally, let us all be reminded that as advocates of any issue, all of us should constantly be clear and reflective about our principles and behaviour, besides our goals and agenda.
