Update from todays meeting with Minister Johnson and Alana DeLong and presentation at Legislature. Meeting prior: - The Minister was very keen on collaboration - working with community association, developer partnerships with a feasible financial model that is better than them getting funding themselves, getting solutions brought to the table - very keen on alternative solutions incl. temp portable school (e.g. Herons Crossing in Airdrie or Batallion park), multi-use facility, before/after care addition - both Alana and Minister were surprised by siblings being split up... they needed to know the human impact of this, now they do It was a very short 15 min mtg and the Minister doesnt have the full picture required for our area yet and he agreed to meeting with us again when hes back to Calgary to talk more. Although we didnt get commitments today, another door has been opened and another baby step forward. Further to that Alana has reached out to a few folks on her way home from Edmonton and I had a good long chat with her about next steps and who is looking into what alternative models, shes very interested in getting more details and bringing this info hopefully via mtg to the Minister for further discussion. The announcement on Monday of where we sit on the Capital Plan will make a huge difference in the positioning for getting us a school. That announcement will affect both her and the Ministers actions and ours as well of course. stay tuned... big thanks to the team for taking a day of their lives to go up there and represent us - Deanna, John, Melanie, Robyn & Sean.
