Uppsala University PhD positions in Humanities, Sciences or equivalent, Sweden Uppsala University’s Department for History of Science and Ideas announces two 4-year PhD positions. These positions are available from 2014-02-01. History of science and ideas is taught at the undergraduate level, master’s level and at PhD level. Moreover as to research, members currently undertake a broad range of research topics including History of Science, History of Philosophy, History of Medicine, Cultural History and Media History. Deadline: 15 September 2013 Open to: students who hold a Masters Degree in the Humanities, Sciences or equivalent Scholarship: the first year: 15,500 SEK/month, the following years: 22,100 SEK/month Research proposals in any of these fields are most welcome. Successful candidates will pursue their doctoral studies full-time and are expected to participate actively in departmental activities such as seminars, workshops, etc. The position might also entail teaching and other assignments. The working language in the Department is Swedish and in the Office is English. However, reading understanding and oral knowledge of Swedish is expected within the first year. Hence research could be conducted in both languages. Eligibility Admission for the PhD at Uppsala University is highly competitive and that a Masters Degree in the Humanities or Sciences or equivalent at the time of application is a prerequisite for a successful application. Scholarship During the first year, the successful candidates will receive “utbildningsbidrag”, which represents a salary of currently 15 500 SEK/month. During the following years, s/he will hold a “doktorandanställning” where the starting salary currently is 23 100 SEK/month. The latter position is a proper employment the holder of which qualifies for the standard Swedish social benefits, such as paid parental leave.
