Usually I dont post these kind of posts but I just cant let this one go. Yesterday was the animal weigh in for the livestock at the Meigs county fair. What a devastating experience for about 20 of our young Meigs county kids whose animals did not make weight according to the official scales. Kids who have spent at least the last 6 months caring for their animals. Kids and families who instead of going on vacation has spent their summer caring for their animals. Kids who are now not going to be able to sell the animals on Saturday. and who were depending on this money for school clothes, down payments on a cars and college. And Im not talking like 10-20 lbs. off Im talking about 2-3 lbs off, and yes my daughter missed it by 3 lbs. Yes, 3 lbs! When we talked to the Sr. Fair Board members about this all we were told was that the kids should have fed and taken care of their animals better making the kids feel ashamed of themselves. Really!! Between my kids and myself. I have been apart of the Meigs Co. fair for over 40 years. I guess I was wrong, I thought the fair was here for the kids. To help them to learn and feel better about themselves not to feel like a failure and that they had done something wrong. My mistake. And to the Sr. Fair Board members all I can say is SHAME ON YOU!!
