VALENTINA (A1007116) ****AN OLD SOUL IN A YOUNG BODY**** A volunteer writes: Sweet Valentina is only two years old but already shes lived through enough heartache to last a lifetime and her expressive eyes - the windows into a loving yet lonely soul - haunt me long after weve parted. Shes emaciated, has overgrown nails and the tell-tale teats of a throwaway mama and her once beautiful coat is marred by some kind of untreated allergy. This teen Mom may look a little rough around the edges but with some time and TLC, I guarantee shell soon be as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside. Shy but not fearful, curious, well-mannered and affectionate without being all over you, shes what my Mom would call an old soul, her spirit bent under by the weight of her past yet stoically refusing to break. Valentina is so easy to handle, walking on leash like a pro, going to the bathroom promptly and mostly ignoring other dogs we pass. She very much welcomes snuggles and she aced her behavior evaluation too, bashful at first but quick to approach her assessor for petting. When I offer treats theyre taken lightly from my hand and though tennis balls hold no interest for her (rope toys and plushies only please!) she waits politely for a toss of her stuffed toy before shaking the dickens out of it and dropping it so I can throw again, zero guarding issues to be seen. Valentina deserves to be forever cherished and theres a playful side to her that only the love of a patient, understanding family can truly free from the bonds of the past. Any pretty pup can catch your eye, but it takes someone very special to catch your heart...Valentina certainly has mine.” After reading that how can you NOT fall in love with this girl??? My heart just aches to give her a happy life after the past she has had. But Valentina’s time is up, the shelter has decided to put her on the Death List. Valentina already has 2 strikes against her: she is a Pit Bull Mix, and she wears a coat of black. Dogs with black coats get overlooked at the shelter. Don’t let her become yet another statistic. Share her for her new forever home. She is such a great girl that the ACC will let you reserve her online without the assistance of a rescue tonight. But don’t wait too long because then one will have to step in. Valentina sits and waits patiently for her savior to arrive. Don’t let her down.
