VITAMINS FOR THE MIND by Ron Reynolds #3365 (Tuesday, August 27, 2013) Ladder and Clouds Imagine that you have a ladder, and someone has told you that if you’ll climb the ladder, you’ll discover rewards and personal growth beyond your current ability to comprehend. Since what you’re currently doing – and have been doing for several years – hasn’t really gotten you anywhere, you decide to act in faith on the words of the person who told you in beautiful and encouraging words about what was at the top of the ladder. So, you make a ‘leap of faith’ and you put your foot on the first rung and look upward, but the top of the ladder disappears into a fog. In spite of not ‘seeing the top’ from where you are you begin to climb; your instructions you received from the friend who told you about the ‘promise up there above you’ were simple; “Just put your foot on the next rung and climb – no matter what.” As you climb upward several dozen rungs on the ladder, your vision is reduced to zero as your head enters the fog, and you feel a twinge of uncertainty and even a millisecond or two of apprehension and then – fear. It’s in that moment of fear that you remember the words of your friend who had said – “Remember, as you climb upward that the fear of failure is a far more powerful emotion than the desire for gain.” This was one of those moments he must have been referring to, and just as you took one more step upward and began to think about turning back, the blast of light puts your fear in full retreat. You pause for awhile to let the warming light warm you, encourage you and inspire you, and as you then look upward you again see yet another ceiling of fog just above you. And now, the pull of self-doubt and the twinge of fear engulfs you once more, but you hear again the words of the one who painted the word picture of what lies above the fog; “The only means for putting fear and uncertainty in its rightful place is by taking action – in spite of your fear.” So, once again, you put your foot on the next rung and lift yourself upward, and the process repeats itself – the fog of doubt and discouragement followed by the joy of the warming light and then yet another fog layer, until finally – after a mere ‘one more rung’ amid the many you’ve already risen above, there it is – the blazing glory of achievement that words cannot describe. Is this not the journey of all those – in spite of a lifetime of doubts and self-imposed limitations – who have risen through the many pin ranks of AdvoCare? One more rung, and then Silver; another rung and then Gold and with the next rung – Gold 3-Star; nearly all forms of human success center around that ‘upward reach’ and trying to rise above and escape the lure and the attraction of the simple life in that place we call ‘the valley.’ May you rise above those things that limit you, until at last you find the sunshine of accomplishment and discover for yourself what has always been – ‘within your reach.’ The views expressed on this post are those of Ron Reynolds and do not necessarily reflect the views of AdvoCare.
