VOTE AGAINST PROP ONE (BeaumontEnterprise) In 2006, our Legislature decided to lower property taxes and recapture the lost revenue through the margins (business) tax, which sounded great as a property owner. However, our Legislatures faulty math never added up and it ended up creating a structural deficit, meaning that every biennium Texas is short $10 billion in revenue. The business tax essentially never brought in the expected revenue that our Legislature had hoped for. Since this decision, our Legislature has struggled every two years, trying to provide services with less money. The two largest sectors being hit are EDUCATION and transportation. The reason all Texans should vote NO on Proposition One is because when education was cut $5.4 billion in 2011, our [REPUBLICAN] Legislature REFUSED to create this same amendment to fund our schools and teachers. In 2013, our Legislature held three special sessions in order to secure funding for transportation. Proposition One is really saying that our roads are more important than our children! VOTE NO!
