Vanity: Dreams “The ant’s a centaur in his dragon world. Pull down thy vanity, it is not man Made courage, or made order, or made grace.” ---Ezra Pound (1885-1972), The Pisan Cantos, no.81, 1948 Music): Scott Cossu, Northern Dreams (Emerald Pathway) (2002) She was closed to my heartbeats, Away from my knowingly eyes; We did many a good thing, smiled Like a moon time night, laughed Until daybreak; oh, girl, I wish a Time special, creation comes alive. We were ready for the first cause. Once I believed, thought a world Into view; next, hope ran her course Sweetly known like rushing winds, O she sweeps over my being; senses Bridged my spirit, established next My heart and soul; I entered, tried Then: blessed all my dreams ashore. Now I know this heap upon heap A little more than a mole or anthill, Perhaps like place of dirt, of industrial Workers that do for sake of one; I Saw Andromeda fall from western sky Thence entered your nightly way Veil of tears: inceptive dark stars. ---/the Poet/11.9.04
