Very few will watch this, in its entirety, but it really is an important lesson in our History. Its important because, in his speech, Reagan drew some sharp lines of contrast between economic policies spanning between several Presidents BEFORE his administration, both Republicans and Democrats, and his, up to the point of his SOTU address featured here. The issue was centered around corruption and fraud at the Federal level, wasteful spending, TAX reform, and regulations. As a critic, watching this, I saw a case made, that was hard to dismiss and really refreshing - notice the applause from the audience?? In time, his policies did actually drive unemployment down, which peaked at 10.8 percent to 5.3 percent in 1989. For those who are Libertarian, if you listen to him, you will hear some Libertarians overtones - remember he appointed Milton Friedman to his economic policy team. Check out this side by side comparison to Reagan and Obama for example. ijreview/2014/01/109489-reagan-vs-obama-7-charts-prove-real-recovery/ https://youtube/watch?v=2QFLsxeEl5I Just remember before losing yer minds over this, and bashing me for bringing it up - Reagan, like Obama Today, did NOT have a same party majority controlling both chambers, that he could count on - consessions were made, so trade offs occurred to get some of the things he wanted policy wise. If you study the chart provided in the ljReview link, you will also find that income inequality was worse under Obama than Reagan as well. Personally I think Reagan was lesser a President than could have been, but when you have George HW Bush, who I believe did NOT respect the man, and underminded him, and possibly even assisted with the Iran-Contra affair, I think obstacles like that should be considered when critiquing a administrations successes and failures. NOTE: taxes went up under George HW Bush, even when he had said read my Lips. 90s Internet boom saved Clinton - Thanks Private Sector free market capitalism, thanks Republican majority Congress who kept Clinton in check!!!
