Very little surprises us with the dictatorship of Barack Obama. Yes, I used the word dictatorship. Why? Because Obama’s administration doesn’t seem to care what the law is, he simply dictates what he wants it to be. Indeed, very little is surprising these days, but this story is a full throated jaw-dropper. Case in point, look at the $1.5 BILLION we continue to send to Egypt. Back on July 8th I wrote about Obama’s pivot to find a way to continue funding Egypt, even though U.S. law specifically bans funding to nations ruled by military coup. The administration ran into hot water over it, so the State Department but an army of attorneys on the case. The legal conclusion? It’s only a military coup if the administration admits it’s a coup. I kid you not. The senior official did not describe the legal reasoning behind the finding, saying only, “The law does not require us to make a formal determination as to whether a coup took place, and it is not in our national interest to make such a determination.” “We will not say it was a coup, we will not say it was not a coup, we will just not say,” the official said. So even though it is a coup, it’s only viewed as a coup in legal terms if the Obama administration admits it is a coup.
