I am writing to you today to let you know that a few of these organizations have just released upcoming program dates for the fall and are looking for qualified veterans to fill these slots IMMEDIATELY. These are short term, paid, seasonal training opportunities for veterans. In other words, these opportunities provide you with the experience and certifications needed to start a similar career in these fields; while providing you with a living stipend to supplement your income while you take time off from work to learn and be of service. After your term of service is complete, you will be able to utilize the career counseling services offered by Veterans Green Jobs to help translate everything you have just learned into a career. We do not guarantee employment after training; however, if you are fully committed to the program, you will leave with outstanding credentials that make you extremely competitive for federal employment. Program Benefits Wildland Firefighting: • Basic Wildland Firefighting Certification (redcard) • S 212 Chainsaw Certification • Wilderness First Aid/CPR • Hands on experience doing fire mitigation • Bi-monthly living allowance • AmeriCorps education award • Veterans Green Jobs Post-Service Career Counseling Conservation/Trail Maintenance: • Chainsaw and Trails Design Training • Wilderness First Aid/CPR • Bi-monthly Living Allowance • AmeriCorps Education Award • Veterans Green Jobs Post-Service Career Counseling Wildland Firefighting Programs SCA Fall Veterans Fire Corps Location: Black Hills National Forest, SD; Coconino National Forest, AZ; Prescott National Forest, AZ Dates: September 3-November 26, 2013 Details: Relocation is paid for; housing in taken care of on off days. Spend a few weeks at each location before completeing work and moving to the next location. MCC Veterans Fuel Management Program Location: Billings and Helena, MT Dates: August 14-October 25, 2013 Details: Fully residential; veterans camp for duration of program SCC Lincoln Residential Program Location: Lincoln National Forest near Ruidoso, New Mexico Dates: August 19-November 19, 2013 Details: Two weeks of training spread throughout the session and ten 4-6 day hitches in which members gain on the job experience. Each hitch has 1-3 days off in between. This program is residential and will be based in Lincoln National Forest near Ruidoso, New Mexico SCC Four Corners Location: Durango, CO Dates: October 14-April 11, 2013 Details: Three weeks training throughout season; Hitch schedule of 8 days on/6 days off CCC Veterans Fire Program Location : Auburn and South Lake Tahoe, CA Dates: Auburn- July 28, 2013 and South Lake Tahoe- June 24, 2013 Details: Both programs are completely residential Conservation Programs NCC Fall Restoration Team Member Location: Spring Mountains NRA; Ted Rock Canyon NRA; Carson City and Ely, NV Dates: August 26-November 21, 2013 Details: Crew members will be assigned to serve from the Las Vegas Field Station or the Reno Field Station, and will serve in the field on 4-day tours, 8-day tours, or a mixture of the two UCC Fall Trail Crew Location: Logan and Escalante, UT Dates: August 12-November 1, 2013 Details: Crew Members travel with their crew to project sites and spend 4-8 days working and living (usually camping) at that location before returning to their base site to prepare for their next project Contact Information If you are interested in applying for any of these programs, or if you would like to request more information, please contact: Peter Lagorio Conservation Outreach Assistant Veterans Green Jobs [email protected] 720-236-1349
