Villa 0-2 Arsenal - HT: Villa were dealt a double blow in a ruthless 60-second blitz from Arsenal. Jack Wilshere met Nacho Monreal’s cutback and fired across Brad Guzan to put the Gunners ahead on 34 minutes. And it took less than a minute for the England midfielder to tee up his team-mate Olivier Giroud, who superbly controlled a chipped ball before slotting home. Paul Lambert had already been forced into a reshuffle when Serge Gnabry’s powerful drive hit Nathan Baker in the face, forcing the defender off with mild concussion. Nevertheless, Villa regrouped and had a couple of half chances through Fabian Delph and Karim El Ahmadi. Firstly, Delph dragged a shot wide after Christian Benteke’s pressing forced the Gunners into a defensive mistake. Then El Ahmadi met Delph’s left-wing cross but couldn’t keep his volley down.
