Volcano Animals When researchers ventured into a remote crater near the Mount Bosavi volcano in Papua New Guinea, they discovered a treasure trove of new species of wildlife that, never having been exposed to humans, was inherently unafraid of them and even allowed the scientists to pick them up! New species found included: •16 new types of frogs •a fanged frog •a possum that, much like a skunk, releases a foul odor when frightened •a giant 32-inch-long wooly rat weighing 3.3. pounds
