||WARNING|| EMOTIONAL RANT SARCASM MAY BE PRESENT This Evening, it was my turn to do the pleasant chore of shopping at Walmart Super-center in Miami, Oklahoma. My Wife had remarked after her last trip there that they had installed Self Check Out Lanes. I explained to her how I have a problem with that because it does nothing more than eliminate checkers from the equation which equals more profit for Walmart who may explain how they pass this saving on to the consumer; I will refrain from commenting further on that statement. As I proceeded to the Check out, there were three lanes open but not moving and I saw the Express Lanes were closed and had been replaced with the self checkout lanes but honest to God, I never saw the entrance for the self checkout lanes. They were blocked with blue dividers on the customer side? Anyways, I would not have used them anyhow in protest. The three overloaded lanes continued to advance at a snails pace but the lines continued to grow and grow and grow; after counting Thirty people in one line, I am not exaggerating; I could hold my peace no longer and spoke up. (Thank God my Wife was not with me or I would have walked home.) In my Preachers voice, I explained to those in line that I am a peaceable person but what we were caught up in was an effort to force us to use the self check out lanes. I also explained that Walmart desires to decrease expenditures by cutting checkers and passing the work on to the customer and that if we remained silent, they will succeed. I asked them to look around and decide for yourself whether this was acceptable (30 or more people standing in each line) and drop an e-mail to the Regional Manager and Corporate Management and tell them the time (2100-2145) and ask them to review the tapes and decide for themselves whether they had a problem or not. I scanned the audience with my eyes as I have become accustomed to from the pulpit; some nodded in agreement and some looked down at the floor. I would like to have continued with a speech about how Walmart is fleecing this nation but miraculously, checkers marched to the lanes and opened them faster than a scalded dog and the problem eliminated itself or did it?
