ATTENTION 8TH GRADE STUDENTS: Great news! The 2015 Rogers Explorers program application is now available! Current eighth grade students from The Center for Rural Development’s 45-county service area of Southern and Eastern Kentucky are eligible to apply. The Rogers Explorers program is an intensive three-day, two-night program focused on cultivating skills in leadership, technology, math, science, and community service. It is developed, coordinated, and supervised by The Center for Rural Development in partnership with Asbury University, University of the Cumberlands, Lindsey Wilson College, Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University and The Center’s newest partner, University of Pikeville. Activities throughout the program are both educational and fun. Classroom projects are very hands-on, and Explorers are able to actively participate in practical college courses, fine-tune leadership skills, and develop a network of friends and resources throughout our Southern and Eastern Kentucky region. We received over 370 applications for the program last year! Although there are many more qualified applicants than we can possibly accept, please remember only the TWO highest scoring applicants from each county will be accepted. After those 90 selections are made we will then select the next 90 highest scoring applicants to participate in the program; meaning 180 total participants for 2015. The scoring committee will be provided blinded copies of student applications, and they will not know who students are or where students are from when scoring. UPDATE IN APPLICATION PROCESS Students interested in applying can now do so by utilizing our Online Application Portal. We will no longer accept mailed or emailed applications. By registering through the Online Application Portal students will be able to download individual “Assignments” to their computer, type/gather the requested information, and then submit each assignment online. This also includes letters of recommendation and the required current YTD 8th grade school transcript. Students will receive an email confirmation once they submit each assignment. Once students register and sign in to the Online Application Portal they will be able to begin the application process. At the top of the application page there is a step by step video of instruction available for a detailed walk-through of the application process. School counselors interested in gaining access to the portal are more than welcome to create an account but may NOT submit applications on the student’s behalf. Application Deadline All “Assignments” MUST be submitted by February 15 at 5pm. Students will not be able to submit the individual assignments after this date. To learn more about the program and to APPLY, visit centeryouthprograms. If you have questions about the application process or would like to learn more about the program please don¹t hesitate to contact me.
