WEATHER SUMMARY FOR SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA For those who did not like the recent hot weather, here is your change. But I was not expecting this much of a change! A very strong marine air layer pushed into western Oregon this morning and this has clouds covering the entire west side of the state. There are also some showers breaking out. These are mostly along and near the mountains, but they could drift out over valleys this morning. By this afternoon, things begin to clear. How much clearing and when will depend on where you are, but the clearing will generally work from the south to the north. We will not totally eliminate the chance for showers. They just become more isolated this afternoon and will be mostly over the mountains, at the coast, and from Douglas County north. The same situation looks to repeat for tomorrow, except possibly for the Rogue Valley as I do not think the marine air layer will be as strong as it was today. So expect a much better start to the day in the Medford area. We will dry out and get back to seasonal temperatures for Friday....but that is a short lived break. A cutoff low is going to set up off the coast. What that means at this time of the year is thunderstorms. These will begin to develop in the afternoon and evening on Saturday over the more likely areas in Northern California and east of the Cascades. But come Sunday and into Monday the activity becomes more widespread. We will be seeing the chance for showers and storms just about everywhere. We might also be seeing some pretty extensive cloud cover as well....but for now, I am going to be something of an optimist and forecast partly sunny skies that could become mostly cloudy as we see the storms develop each day.
