WEATHER WARNINGS FROM THE BOM (1) ****NEW SOUTH WALES SEVERE WEATHER WARNING FOR DAMAGING WINDS**** for people in the Illawarra and South Coast forecast districts ****DAMAGING WINDS AND DANGEROUS SURF FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON****. Weather Situation A low currently over northwest NSW is expected to move slowly east and deepen into a complex low pressure system off the central parts of the NSW coast on Sunday afternoon. Uncertainty remains as to the position and strength of this low on Sunday afternoon, with the Illawarra and adjacent parts of the South Coast district most likely to experience gale force winds and damaging surf in a south to southeasterly airstream associated with the low. Damaging winds around 65 km/h with peak gusts of 90 km/h are forecast for coastal parts of the Illawarra and South Coast forecast districts, expected to develop Sunday afternoon. Dangerous surf with significant wave heights 4 to 5 metres expected to develop later Sunday afternoon or evening. Large and powerful surf conditions in the evening are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, swimming and surfing. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500. (2) ****WARNING TO SHEEP GRAZIERS**** for the South Coast, Illawarra, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains forecast districts Sheep Graziers are warned that cool temperatures, rain, possibly heavy at times, and fresh to strong southeasterly winds are expected during Sunday. Areas likely to be affected include the South Coast, Illawarra, and eastern parts of the Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains forecast districts. There is a high risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions. ****VICTORIA**** Flood Watch for East Gippsland (Mitchell, Tambo, Snowy, Cann and Genoa Rivers, and Gippsland Lakes) A developing East Coast Low off the central NSW coast is expected to intensify during Sunday night, bringing widespread rainfall totals of 30-50mm to the East Gippsland catchments during Sunday night and throughout Monday. Localised higher totals of 80 to 100mm are possible on the ranges of East Gippsland and Southern NSW during this period. Based on current catchment conditions and the forecast rainfall, minor flooding is possible in the East Gippsland catchments from Monday. At this stage, this rainfall event is not expected to affect the Gippsland Lakes. The Bureau of Meteorology is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue catchment specific warnings if and when required. Note: This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop. Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor Flood Level is expected to be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers for which the Bureau of Meteorology provides a flood warning service.
