WEDNESDAY CONFESSION. Christmas has never been a top holiday for me. When I was a little girl, my mother would pick any little thing leading up to Christmas to put me on punishment. And it wasn’t just a little punishment, it lasted for 6 months, and she said it was to cover Christmas, my birthday and Easter so she wouldn’t have to buy me anything. She actually TOLD ME THAT. (If you’ve followed my previous posts, you’ll know that I was adopted by my biological mother and there’s a whole lot of pain centered around a woman being forced to raise a child she didn’t want in the first place.) The majority of the time my mother kept her promise on that, even going so far as to take me to Disney World for a church trip, but I spent the entire week in the hotel-never laid eyes on that place. To this day, I’ve never been. So other than my son, who, no matter what his financial status is, makes sure I get something for Christmas, I never really expect anything for that holiday or celebrate it with anything more than food and good people, and maybe a few presents. Well, the members of M-LAS pulled a number on me. They banded together to create the 12 days of Christmas, and each one of them has sent me a different gift each day. I feel like an overgrown child because the anticipation and happiness it has brought me has lifted my spirits. I probably wouldn’t have caught on until Day 5, if one of the members hadn’t slipped up and mentioned, “more to come” in a group post. The group probably said a collective “Argh!!! Can’t you keep a secret?” But the sentiment itself, was absolutely amazing. THANK YOU M-LAS!!
