WEST FORK OF THE SAN JACINTO RIVER IS RISING AND COULD FLOOD ADJACENT SUBDIVISION STREETS RESIDENTS ADVISED TO PREPARE FOR POTENTIAL FLOODING CONDITIONS Harris County emergency management officials urge residents who live in subdivisions adjacent to the West Fork of the San Jacinto River near US 59 to prepare for potential flooding conditions later today. This morning, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the West Fork of the San Jacinto River. The heavy influx of stormwater into the West Fork is expected to cause the river to come out of its banks today, which could lead to street flooding in low-lying streets in the Riverside Crest, Northshore and Belleau Woods subdivisions. Residents in those subdivisions, and in other neighborhoods near the West Fork, are urged to prepare in advance by: -Securing valuables and important documents and moving them to higher ground. -Avoid driving, if possible. If you must venture out, avoid driving into water of unknown depth. Moving water can quickly sweep you and your vehicle away. -Restricting children from playing in flooded areas. -Remaining in your home during flooding conditions unless instructed to evacuate by local officials. -Monitoring rainfall and bayou water levels on its Harris County Regional Flood Warning System website (desktop and mobile versions) at harriscountyfws.org. Harris County residents are urged to report house flooding by calling 713-684-4000 or completing a Flood Survey as soon as possible at the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management’s website at readyharris.org.
