WHAT ARE FIBROUS FOODS? A human body needs plenty of fiber to stop burning itself out. Fibrous foods are Oatmeal, Wheatmeal, Cornmeal and so on. When cooked, it all comes to one thing, it becomes porridge. When it comes to Oatmeal, there are different brands and different types of it. For instance, there’s the Original Oatmeal, Quick Cooking or Instant. There are various brands of oats, some are Quaker Oats, Uncle Toby’s Oats, Australia Harvest and others. Cornmeal can either be Semolina or it can be Polenta which I haven’t seen in the Philippines yet, but only Australia and the same with wheatmeal. Sometimes there’s toasted Muesly as well which I take into a dish and snack on it as is in between meals because it’s all fiber. Cook a small saucepan of oats for one person for breakfast each day and eat it with either sliced bananas or other kinds of fruit, even vegetables, or if you see mushrooms growing around the place, add them to it. If not, break up any old bread into it or even biscuits. Add a table spoon of powdered milk, fresh milk if you have it, evaporated or condensed milk. You may even add cream or yogurt if nothing else. No sugar though because you want to cut fat from your stomach. Mix it all in and leave it to cool off while you go on with other household duties. Eat your porridge with a glass of water to sip on, no juices or sweet drinks and you will notice the difference after a while. Miron Lovric, 15/12/2012.
