WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A MAN REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY MEMORIZE: And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. Genesis 3:10 – 11 BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 12-17 BIBLE STUDY: Genesis 3:1- 21 When people don’t want to accept responsibility, either for their actions or decisions, they blame their skin colour, background, upbringing, parent, etc for whatever happens to them. A man, with a broken door, returned home one afternoon and found that his stereo was missing. Instead of accepting responsibility – he knew the door was bad and did nothing about it - he began to blame people who buy stolen stereo. According to him, the thieves were motivated to steal his stereo because there was a market for stolen stereo. What has the market for stolen radio got to do with his irresponsibility? If he had replaced his broken door, someone would not have walked in and stole his stereo. Since he did not take responsibility, he returned home shortly after that and his TV was gone. Not until he takes responsibility and fix the broken door, his belongs are not safe. Not taking responsibility is less demanding. It is less painful. It simply means less time in the unknown. It’s more comfortable. You can just take it easy and blame problems in your life on someone else. But there is always a heavy price to pay. That man paid with his TV and stereo. Genesis 3:10-11 says, “And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.” Adam didn’t want to take responsibility for his actions, so he blamed God for providing him with a wife and also Eve for offering him the forbidden fruit. Let’s briefly look at few things that happened to him after he shifted the blame to God and his wife. Firstly, he went from prospering in the garden to suffering outside the garden. Adam who was living in abundance in the garden began to live in want outside the garden. According to Genesis 3:24, he moved from ‘dressing the garden’ ministry to ‘tilling the ground’ ministry. Secondly, he began to live in sorrow. Genesis 3:17 says, “And unto Adam he said, because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the Tree, of which i commanded thee, saying thou shalt not eat of out it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy love.” Thirdly, struggle entered into the equation (Genesis 3:18). A man who refuses to take responsibility is in danger of these things. Such man, if he is already prospering, will go from prospering to suffering. Also, he will live in sorrow. Blaming people does not provide solution to problems. Whilst taking responsibility births solution which in turn brings happiness, blaming people changes nothing which in turn brings sorrow. In addition, not taking responsibility causes people to suffer unnecessarily. THOUGHT OF THE DAY: Those who don’t take responsibility for their life end up serving those who take responsibility for their life. PRAYER POINT: Father, please perfect all that concerns me this year. twitter@BroOluwatoki Bro Samuel | Reaching the world for Jesus.
