WHEW. What a day. One of the things I love about life is how the most profound, yet sublime moments can come in the most unexpected fashion, completely blindsiding you. After working 59 of the past 63 days, Im SO grateful to have my days off back, as well as the extra money. Before heading to the gym for leg day, I decided to stop off at my raw restaurant for a delicious cacao-maca smoothie. As I was savoring it in their beautiful garden, my favorite bug, a ladybug landed on my leg & crawled around before flitting up to my neck, which tickled deliciously. And oh how I love it when a beautiful girl kisses my neck, even if she has six legs. I noticed a bug crawling on my cup & invited her onto my hand. Her beautiful, long body was black with gray & yellow spots. As she nibbled on my palm, I reflected how for decades, I wouldve instinctively flicked her away or crushed her. For what?! Walking on me?! No, because thats what my family taught me. If theres any being that doesnt look like you, whether an insect, a mouse or a minority, get rid of it immediately. In fact, I now have a mouse and several spiders in my room that know theyre perfectly welcome. I felt intrinsically connected to the bugs & out of nowhere, I got flashes of the videos & words Gary Yourofsky shared & the tears came flowing. Why cant we treat our fellow Earthlings with more love & compassion?! I lived carelessly, habitually for so many years & it kills me to think of how much harm I caused. After all, being Gandhi or Hitler requires about the same amount of effort. As I walked the mile to the gym, the images kept slamming into my brain & I couldnt stop crying. I process & utilize anger VERY constructively, and learned from Tony Robbins how to immediately get in the right state. I remembered how when Im in great shape, I get exponentially more people to listen to my vegan message. SO, Id picture these poor chickens being debeaked or ground up alive, innocent cows having their horns & tails chopped off, sweet pigs being castrated & beaten...and the angrier I got, the better my workout got. By the time I got to the leg press machine, I was in a pure rage. So much so, on my last set, Im pretty sure I couldve pressed a goddamn Volkswagen. On Earth Day, I feel reborn. Namaste to all Earthlings.
