WM. Berry Killed WM. Boyer. WM Boyer then went to Texas and was never charged. B arton Kelly died 8 DEC 1883. WM. Boyer died 8 DEC 1883 instantly of a gun shot wound. Emiline Mayo-Boyer then married James Tilman Wilson. James Wilson and Emiline Mayo are Goldie Gibson’s grandparents and Frank Wilson’s parents. Frank Wilson and Edna Wilson are Goldie Gibson’s parents. Emiline Mayo also had a son William Ulysses Boyer. An account of the shooting is below in the Democratic Standard newspaper from 12/15/1883 below: DEMOCRATIC STANDARD Fredericktown, Missouri Saturday, December 15, 1883 A Loud Temperance Sermon. The shooting affray that occurred At the “Brewington” Distillery last Saturday, caused much excitement, two deaths and probably a third. It seems from rumor that ten or fifteen men had gathered around the “worm of the still” as they were wont to do and during their drinking and ca- rousing, an old fued caught fire through some manner or other, caus- ed by a dispute in relation to a distil- lers bond. The men were in the office rom when a fight was proposed and one of the parties started for the out- side, where upon WM. Boyer present- ed his gun at BART KELLY, who turned, caught the gun and turned it away from him. Then Boyer reached down into his boot-leg, drew a pistol and shot Kelly in the forehead, killing him instantly. Boyer then turned and shot WM. BERRY in the left breast and arm severely wounding him. Boyer was at that moment shot by someone, now unknown, through the heart. The bystanders fled and the facts cannot now be more definitely reached. One thing is pretty sure and that is: whis- key played an important part through out the whole performance. The con- gregation of men at that point, for some time has been going on and they will fight to hurt occasionally. Perhaps a Still-hours is a good thing But this case seem to (can’t read this part of the paper) In opposition to morality and peacefulness. If WM. BERRY should not recover, there will be left by that one days sad work, eighteen orphans and three widows. What a valuable bottle of whiskey that must be to bal- ance against the lives of three men and the widows and orphans. We are truly sorry to have to chronicle so much sad news and if our wishes could be realized we would have no trouble among neighbors, and es- pecially non caused by carousing and drinking.
