WSSC athlete and NCAA Division I Rower (USA) Andy Hulls completing heavy loaded chins (25kgs + BW) for development of posterior chain pulling (vertical) strength! The greater force generating capacity the athlete has (max force on force- Velocity curve) the greater we can convert into power & speed (apply force rapidly, using strength as a platform for explosive performance. Rowers need to be able to chin up and row heavy, both core upper body movements in a rowers strength & power program! Coaches tip; train chins (rotating grip - underhand, overhand and neutral) like a strength movement, that means training the motor pattern like any normal movement and progress and overload (higher task complexity) the movement. Remember to develop strength increase load not reps, this will lead to different adaptation in the neuromuscular profile of the athlete. Train the athletes body as a unit not in isolation, train for performance not fatigue, train for progression not the pump... WSSC systems for athletic development ... Basic , primal patterns.
