Walking down the street this morning in my city of residence, as i passed a long line of people waiting outside a church for a weekly food bank distribution, this thought struck me: america, for so long the land of copious plenty and teeming abundance, overflowing with seemingly unlimited natural resources and a plethora of man-made products, is not immune to a bleak and harsh future, where long lines of humans in every major and minor American city--either waiting for bread or waiting to be strip-searched by agents of a decidedly non-democratic system--will become quite if terribly ordinary. And then as I pondered this dark possibilty another thought struck me: America faces a dystopian future. This is not a figment of some science fiction writers imagination or a special effects-laden script for a futuristic actioner conjured up and pitched by hollywood movie magicians. At present we blindly and joyfully take for granted the peace and prosperity that is no longer reality for and that has been forcibly taken from millions of people in other wartorn corners of the world. The American dreamers, stripped of citizenship and birthrights, will wake up to an anarchist nightmare. Americas streets will become government versus citizens killing fields, citizens versus citizens warzones, the gutters will run with blood and bodies will litter the landscape, lawlessness will become the norm and vigilantism will become the new normal. Martial law implented and enforced. Detention zones and forced labor camps established and overflowing with both innocent and guilty men, women and children of all ages. Military police state from sea to shining sea. Civil rights and due process suspended and eventually eradicated and replaced with bullets-enforced street justice administered by black-helmeted, baton-weilding law-enforcement soldiers of the new regime whose uniforms will not be adorned by the long-cherished stars and stripes emblem. Checkpoints and roadblocks. Regular and random police- and rogue citizen-conducted stop and frisk and kill. Searches and seizures. Ban on and confiscation of all personal communication devices, ie smart phones, tablets, laptops, etc. Food shortages. Hunger. Malnutrition. Starvation. Inflation. Paper currency devalued and worthless. Black market trade and bribery flourishes. Rioting. Burning. Pillaging. Looting. Stealing. Robbing. Raping. Killing. Some already anticipate or forsee this change, most will be caught off guard. The foundation is presently being laid, by a clearly visible systematic erosion of civil rights and at the same time through covert and clandestined preparation by a cabal of US and world leaders, for this scenario to be implemented and will be firmly in place rather swiftly following a series of domestic and international geopolitical/economic/military events. Its not if but when. History shows that all empires, societies and human power structures--even the greatest and longest-lasting most enduring, seemingly invincible and unconquerable ones--fall by the machinations of internal or external forces or both. Though to some this may smack of conspiracy theory-type thinking, I dont think its outside the realm of feasibility...
