Want to play a video game and get paid? Yes, really. $150 for playing 45 mins a day, for 4 days a week, for 4 weeks in a row (12 hours total). I am a recent graduate of USFSP and my company has a contract with the Office of Naval Research to examine the effectiveness of cognitive training on improving working memory. We need a lot of people for this (150-260) and Im trying to find out if enough students from USFSP will be interested in doing this for us to conduct the study here. The study will take place from 5/5/2014 - 6/2/2014 and it involves playing a zombie themed first-person shooter game four times a week, for 45 minutes at a time, for four weeks in a row. Compensation for participation is $150.00 plus the satisfaction of participating in ground breaking research. You would play the game at home on your desktop or laptop but you would be required to go to USFSP or some other location for two hours at the beginning and end of the study for pre/post testing. More info below: ABOUT THE RESEARCH Research has demonstrated that some computer-based training programs can improve individual scores on certain thinking tasks. In order to develop and research this type of mental exercise, the Office of Naval Research is supporting the development of video game-based mental trainers. We have developed the initial components of a mental training game and we need to conduct research to test its effectiveness. We are looking for individuals to participate in this research. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE You are eligible to participate if you are 18 years of age or older (those under 18 require parental permission) and have access to a personal computer (with an internet connection) for downloading the trainer and doing the training. WHAT YOU WOULD DO If you volunteer for this research, you will need to: • Meet with a researcher for 2 hours to complete some surveys at the beginning of your participation. • Login and play the video game for 45 minutes, 4 times a week, for 4 weeks in a row. • Meet with a researcher again for 2 hours at the end of the 4 weeks to complete another set of surveys. COMPENSATION FOR YOUR TIME In appreciation for your time, you will receive $150 upon completing the final set of surveys.
