Was just talking to Mayra Porrata about the need to create learning environments that support the whole child and how we can wait NO longer to attend to the social-emotional health of children (and teachers). Side note - I purposefully didnt use the term social-emotional development, but rather health...meaning expressions that wont emerge just because we age or through formal instruction. Rather, expressions that must be nurtured, fed, and valued...things like gratitude, humanity, love, curiosity, forgiveness. Unfortunately (and unacceptably), these critical expressions are missing from most early childhood assessments/curricula, including the latest ELA (sorry to all my Ohio PreK teams)... Sigh.... Well, thanks for sharing the quote Jenny Christie Katz....sure do missing crossing paths with you!
