Watched this movie yesterday. Was really interesting despite the lower IMDB rating. It is movie about womens prison in Afghanistan. The title refers to to the fact that they dont have to wear burqa in prison. You realize very quickly that life behind bars is often better for some women... and the prison is pretty bad. Every single woman in the prison was there for fleeing their family or husband because of mistreatment and/or abuse. Typical sentence is 10+ years. All were turned in to authorities by their families. Also worth noting- the woman are kept prisoner with their children until age of 10 so you have kids who have never left the grounds living in deplorable conditions. One women has to choose between keeping her baby or selling it because she has no milk and it will die. I appreciated this look at how their society functions on a day to day level but still cant reconcile how they rationalize the treatment of fellow human beings.
