Way to go, Capitol Police! About 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, a man was leaving the Hart Senate Office Building and started having a heart attack and became unconscious and unresponsive. Officer Nicholas Simons of the United States Capitol Police was on the scene and performed CPR, used the AED defibrillator, and by the time DC Fire showed up to transport him to an area hospital, the man became conscious. Several officers responded to the scene to assist in the medical emergency. Officer Simons was extremely eager to earn his CPR/AED certification--and was able to successfully apply it. This is a fine example of how USCP saves lives.
