We Condemn The “Hunger Games” Arrests We condemn a dictatorial and embarrassing holdup of several students and general public in Thailand now, just for them to show the three-finger sign of “The Hunger Games” movie franchise. This idiotic act shows the level of paranoid and instability of Thailand after the military armed takeover and the forced installation of an administration led by General Prayuth Chan-ocha, who eventually made himself prime minister of the land until today. Prior to the “Hunger Games” multiple arrests, this same military regime has been arresting several persons who are seen reading George Orwell’s novel “1984” and simply eating sandwiches (after a known protester vows to do that in public). The addition emphasises the seriousness of human rights violations in Thailand today and a bleak future. The majority of the Thais are against such regime and its hidden supporters, whose single purpose is to terminate Thailand’s process of democratisation. Only guns and other forced tactics keep people from voicing out freely. We ask the world to witness this small incident as an example of the larger problem.
