We are currently dealing with an incident at the hospital; this is NOT AN EMERGENCY. The coal bin for the main boiler has started to smolder and ignite the coal. At this time, it is contained to the coal bin and should not spread any farther than that. The patients and staff at the hospital are safe from danger right now and should remain so during this entire incident. We have the Billings Hazmat crew here monitoring and making sure that the hospital is safe. Our current plan is to have the coal removed tomorrow as soon as the proper equipment and professionals trained to handle this situation arrive. Roundup Fire Department will remain on scene throughout the night and tomorrow. Billings Hazmat crew will also be here monitoring the hospital throughout the night. Our goal is to ensure the patients and staff are safe at all times. Crews are on-site and prepared to deal with unforeseen difficulties. We are hoping to have this incident taken care tomorrow. We are asking the public to keep away from the west side of the hospital (streets AND sidewalks) to allow ample room for crews to work on-site.
