We continue the run down of the songs featured on the new Straight To Video album..... Weve looked at all the 1980s songs on Side A and now were jumping forward to Side B and the 1990s! Track 6 - If You Don’t Love Me (I’ll Kill Myself) Originally recorded by Pete Droge Taken from the 1994 Film Dumb And Dumber Wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world? It took me a while to jump on the Jim Carrey train, I never really got the humour as it was a little too slapstick but this film made me a fan and I still love it to this day. I may be wrong but Im pretty sure that Dumb And Dumber was the first film when I began to laugh out loud whilst watching a film and not giving a shit. I still do it now, particularly on aeroplanes which drives Jayne nuts! The Dumb And Dumber Soundtrack is amazing and, much like the Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure album, its a tough job to pick a favourite. The Gigolo Aunts tune is a major standout as are songs from The Crash Test Dummies and The Primitives. It was the Pete Droge tune though that I decided to go for. Ive been a fan of his since I heard the album Necktie Second which this tune originally came from. I was playing in a band over in Derby and our guitarist was really great at finding all these cool alt-rock bands which was pretty much all I listened to in the mid 1990s. Bands like Droge along with The Gin Blossoms, Hootie before they exploded and Collective Soul - all of whom I still listen to today. Picking the musicians for this track was pretty easy, mainly because I knew they were fans of this particular style. Ryan Hamilton, from People On Vacation, had already offered up his services to sing on the album after hearing the original STV EP a couple of years ago so I was super flattered and I think he gave the song a new identity. For the guitars I asked one of my favourite people from the UK Underground Scene, the wonderful Baz Francis of Magic Eight Ball, who was incredibly speedy in getting the parts over to me, along with endless vocal tracks and harmonies which are spread all over the song. Im hoping to send out a mix with Baz doing all the vocals to the Pledge Music people too which I think will be a cool alternative to the released version. Finally, one of the cool things about doing the new album via the Pledge Music route was allowing fans and Pledgers into the studio to see it all come together. Chris Holt, and his brother Dean, spent the day in the studio whilst I was adding the acoustic guitar to this song. It was great to get Chris actually on the song too, listen out for the Cowbell pretty much throughout - thats Chris making his mark! Thanks mate - ya smashed it! **************************************************************** Vocals – Ryan Hamilton Guitars – Baz Francis / Rob Lane Keyboards – Rob Lane Backing Vocals – Baz Francis Cowbell – Chris Holt Bass – Rob Lane Drums – Michael Richards ****************************************************************
