We got our property tax bills recently. The one for the house I dont dispute. The one for the vacant lot, we also have, floored me. They valued the lot at 104K so I called the assessors office to find out why. The kind fellow there told me an outside property consulting contractor had computed the values. I told the kind fellow that if I could sell it for that and take a huge loss I would be a happy camper. He agreed. He would look in comparable sales from Jan 1 2013-Mar 31 2013 and see if the assessed value is correct. I received a letter yesterday stating that the value would be set at 33.75K. It pays to ask.
