We had a great discussion of We Are All Completely Beside - TopicsExpress

We had a great discussion of We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves last night. Most of us gave it 3 stars; there was one 5 and one 1 but everyone had lots to say about the story. A member shared about not liking the characters. That led into a good discussion of the individual family members. The story was told in the past and in the present by Rosemary, one of the daughters. This led to some confusion about whether she was a reliable narrator. This led back to a familiar theme from past book discussions--are our memories reliable? Is what we remember the true story or our interpretation of the incident? Of course there was much said about the way their upbringing shaped who they became. As far as Im concerned, this is a great book club book because it truly sparked an animated discussion. Our next pick should do the same. It is Night Film by Marisha Pessl. I have one more day to talk about our book club. Check back tomorrow to find out more. Linda
