We have been running the food bank for a few months now and we want to share a story of why people resort to using food banks. The other night one of our volunteers went out to deliver a food parcel to a gentleman who lived on his own. When the brother arrived at the house there was no lights on and it was pitch black. The gentlemen opened the door and smiled to see that someone had came with food for him. The Gentleman had no electricity left on his meter hence why it was dark. Then the brother asked why he is in a situation like this? He stated he went into hospital a few months ago and underwent several operations. After returning home a few months later he found out all his benefits had been stopped as he had been sanctioned. He has no family so there was no one to collect letters on his behalf. This has resulted in the gentlemans benefits being stopped and he has to appeal against the sanctions to get the benefits reinstated which can take up to 12 weeks. Therefore for those 12 weeks he needs to depend on food banks and any organisations that will offer crisis support which are not many. We passed his details to one of the organisations who will help in getting his benefits being reinstated quickly. Every case has different circumstances but we thought we would share this story as this helps others understand why people need to resort to food banks. #TaughtByMuhammad #pbuh #EveryActOfKindessIsCharity
