We have gotten a lot of questions regarding the 8 confirmed tornadoes in our area this past week. Their is no question it has been active but how does this compare to the past? Is something changing? View the video for more or go here: youtu.be/i-nuOuKXXT4. Some Reasons It May Appear We Have Had More Tornadoes This Week • 8 Tornadoes in a week is a lot. We usually average a few tornadoes a year. Weather comes in cycles. We have active years and quiet years. This is an active year much like 1998. Cycles are normal and have happened before. • Social media has increased our storm reports. We have gotten many reports of damage via social media. In the past many of these reports never made it into the office. The New London, NY tornado and the Remsen microburst were only known to us because of reports made via social media. • With cameras having the ability to take video and pictures, we are able to see a lot more of what is happening in our community. -Erik •
