We have just received a statement from District 150 in response to a teacher being arrested for inappropriate relations with a student: Early Tuesday morning, Peoria police arrested Maury R. Beelman, a Roosevelt Magnet School band teacher, based upon an investigation conducted by the Peoria Police Department. The investigation began Monday afternoon when School and District Administrators contacted police after receiving information about an alleged inappropriate relationship between Beelman and a District student. DCFS was immediately notified, followed by Peoria Police. “We take these accusations seriously,” said Superintendent Dr. Grenita Lathan. “We will continue to fully cooperate with Peoria Police and provide whatever support is necessary through the entire investigation.” Beelman did not report to work on Tuesday, the last day for teachers in the District.
