We have received numerous requests for Fire rated windows this summer! Yes we can supply them!.This is due people wanting to install windows in homes where our city requires Fire resistant and protective which both require different materials. They required this when homes are close in proximity. In most cases there are no windows in close proximity on the neighbors wall so what is stopping them? Only to get the information on the plans. In most cases Designers find that the city will not provide the information asked for from us the providers.This is the same issue homes which are in our air fly zones need by code to be STC certified. Here again our response from our customers is thatthe city will not give them the actual STC number the window needs to be certified for. Do our law makers simply not know or is it they do not want to be accountable after they put it on paper for the builder to provide the correct product to meet code. In regards to the STC issue I have called the planning department myself and they simply tell me that itvaries from project to project. That is OK but to have the answer for the individual project is then still required. If any of you designers have the answers for this dilemma please contact me since we have waited for answers for the last number of months where people give up and close the hole where the window was to be or worse they stay on failed inspections due there are no answers forth coming.
