We hear so many people wanting to wake people up, but seldom - TopicsExpress

We hear so many people wanting to wake people up, but seldom question what put them to sleep. I think one contributing factor could have been the No Child Left Behind act of “2001” (NCLB) required all teachers to give 5% of their time to each student regardless if a child was falling behind. Instead of applying the time where it was needed they sent the student for a psychological evaluation that ultimately resulted with psychiatric treatment for ADHD. Though, they also preached that all children learn at a different pace, as if the contradiction would sweeten the deal! It did! Many of these children did not display any of the symptoms associated to ADHD, in fact, most were happy, healthy, energetic children, key word being, “energetic” which would be substituted for hyperactivity. However; receiving medication for the disorder the doctor would inform the parent that the child must take the prescription for approximately 3 months before results would be seen. Oddly enough this was also the amount of time required to become addicted. Any misdiagnosed child that never demonstrated any symptoms would see all of them upon missing a single dose. These were not symptoms of ADHD, rather drug withdrawals. This is where teachers were required to be pushers (without higher test scores, the schools would not receive funding), doctors became dealers and who were the profiteers that invested in the pharmaceutical stock? I think it would be safe to say the one that proposed the legislation?
