We live in a world that seems to perpetually question the worth - TopicsExpress

We live in a world that seems to perpetually question the worth and value of women (whether subtly through objectification in the media, or blatantly through discrimination and publicly mocking their attributes). Its a world that tells women to man up and suck it up so that theyll be taken seriously. We live in a world that teaches little girls to be hardened and to live with carefully constructed walls instead of teaching them that their gentleness and tenderness is a gift that the world desperately needs. Im not advocating for chick flicks or cry sessions, gossip sessions or even feminism (none of which I am claiming are bad or wrong--except maybe gossiping, whats the point in that?); Im just wondering what it might be like if the culture we lived in cultivated a climate in which women felt free to be who there were, and less like what people try to make them. There is real danger in hardening your heart. Being tender and open is beautiful. As a woman, I feel continually shhed. Too sensitive. Too mushy. Too wishy washy. Blah blah. Dont let someone steal your tenderness. Dont allow the coldness and fear of others to tarnish your perfectly vulnerable beating heart. Nothing is more powerful than allowing yourself to truly be affected by things. Whether its a song, a stranger, a mountain, a raindrop, a sentence, feel it all. Look around you. All of this is for you. Take it and have gratitude (Zooey Deschanel).
