We need to ensure our heritage homes, whether they be designated or awaiting designation, are appropriately cared for by the property owners, especially those situated on properties awaiting development approvals. Rosetown has gone through many public meetings of which I have attended all. There has been a lot of angst in the neighbourhood regarding this proposal and the questions and concerns relating to the heritage homes and their care and upkeep. I have also attended mostly all Heritage Richmond Hill (HRH) meetings for the past 6 years, and I know how hard HRH fights to protect these homes and ensure their protection by the owners. Far too many times we have seen heritage homes crumble or undergo deliberate demolition by neglect. I truly hope the damage to this house is not catastrophic. That would be highly regrettable and extremely upsetting. We need to protect these precious built treasures in our midst - they are relics of our past and deserve a respected place in our present and future.
