We sit silently and watch the world around us. This has taken a lifetime to learn. It seems only the old are able to sit next to one another and not say anything and still feel content. The young, brash and impatient, must always break the silence. It is a waste, for silence is pure. Silence is holy. It draws people together because only those who are comfortable with each other can sit without speaking. This is the great paradox. Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook You didnt think I was going to lead into today with a little Notebook action, did you?!! My friends, for an outgoing guy who makes a living as a speaker the last few days have been difficult. Laryngitis means I could barely talk Wednesday, could only whisper Thursday and can do nothing today. Heres what Im discovering, though. There is a great gift in the silence. There is something powerful in just being with others, quiet in each moment. Theres something transformative in talking with a TSA guy, Starbucks barista, flight attendant, lady sitting next to me right now without using words. Today, pause in the business of it all to just be fully present in the silence.
