We walked past the beautiful Parliament building and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier today on our way to see the Church of St. George next to the old Rizarios School where St. Nectarios was the director for 14 years. We venerated his relics (a portion of which are in the reliquary pictured) in the church, as well as praying to St. Phanourios (his icon there was a good reminder!) to help locate the missing School District key. Tourists were taking their photos with the Evzones, which I found very disrespectful. Dont remember that from my college days here. The Byzantine museum was spectacular. I could hardly fathom being in the presence of so many famous icons. We walked through the National Gardens to our hotel, stopping for lunch on the way. Lots of police everywhere, including stockpiles of riot sheilds. Hmm? Must be an important visiting dignitary in town.
